P24 test is a HIV detection test which may be used for the detection of HIV antigen which may be positive from about 1-3 weeks following the infection. It is a valuable test because it can be detected earlier than anti-HIV. p 24 is a viral antigen belonging to the HIV virus and the test is spesific to p24 representing an earlier antibody before the antibodies for the whole HIV Virus(Anti-HIV) are detectable in blood.p 24 antibodies remain in the blood of the infected person and stay for approximately 90 days.
Interpretation: If p24 test is positive, this result means that the person was infected 10-21 days ago remembering that it stays in the blood for approximately 90 days.
