Lupus Anticoagulant

Lupus Anticoagulant is an immunglobulin that binds to cell membrane phospholipids. These antibodies cause blood clotting disorders (this test must not be confused with Lupus erythromatosis test which is an autoimmune disease where immune system attacks the tissues and cause inflamation). Lupus anticoagulants are a member of Antiphospholipids , which react to phospholipids .
Interpretation: If Lupus Anticoagulant is positive it means that there is an autoimmune disorder causing uncontrolled clotting. This causes blood vessel narrowing, blood clots in heart, brain, lungs and legs and low platelet count.
