Ena Panel

ENA is called the Extractable Nuclear Antigen and ENA Panel is the test to detect the presence of autoantibodies in the blood that react with proteins in the cell nucleus. These proteins are called extractable because they can be removed from the cell using saline. They represent 6 proteins. Anti –Sm(for Systemic Lupus Erythromatosis,SLE), Anti-RNP(For Mixed Connective Tissue Disease,MCTD), Anti La/Anti SS-B (For Sjorgen’s Syndrome), Anti-Ro/Anti-SS(For Sjorgen’s Syndrome), Anti SCL70 (For Scleroderma), Anti-Jo(For dermatomyositis).
Interpretation: It is generally interpreted with ANA (Antinuclear Antibody) results. When ANA is positive, any of the panel makes it possible to distinguish different collagen diseases. Negative results are not interpretable.
